i freaking lovee ryousangata fashion
its funny to me cause ryousangata means 'mass produced' (in the sense that whatever is 'ryousangata' clothing is what is popular at the time and therefore, the girls who wear that style look like they're being mass produced at a factory) but i don't think i've ever really liked popular fashion where i am. my parents should've known something was off when 10 year old me refused to wear dresses/only wanted to wear pantsuits for 'formal' attire and was incredibly picky about fabric and cloth material, but that's besides the point. i love alternative fashion but i didn't have either the money and/or the confidence to wear things besides a baggy t-shirt and shorts. however, something about the cuteness of the entire jirai aesthetic as well as a lot of the meaning/familiarity i found among jirai girls was just so nice and made it easy to love the subculture.
now don't get me wrong: these girls can be annoying af, ESPECIALLY online. but that's just it... they're really only annoying online. on tiktok you see 'jiraimaxxing', on twitter (or x, the everything app) its constant debate over contacts, dupes, etc., and on youtube its discussions of how jirai is dangerous and evil because of it's meaning of 'landmine' and its origins. and while theres a lot of actual meaningful discussion that could be had around jirai girls and jirai kei, a lot of it is just a useless cycle of no one saying anything that has depth or brings something new to the table. in person though? random people come up and say 'ur outfit! is so pretty', 'oh my god you're so cute, like lolita in real life" (LOL), and my favorite, "i love your coord!!". that one's my fav because it makes me think YES!!! ITS A COORD!!!!
fellow j-fashioner i see you don't worry i know ur just undercover rn in a tshirt and jeans don't worry thats also me 98% of the time.
as much as i'd love to wear jirai kei more often, the tariffs are making me not want to get those much nicer priced taobao dupes. and i'm not prepared to drop $400 at liz lisa for 2 skirts and 2 shirts; sorry y'all. i have maybe 4 different outfits i can wear and that's it
. plus my hair is super frizzy so unless i want to get slapped by jirai twitter, i need to wear a wig (which actually saved my life, wigs r so fun). i even (somewhat) learned and purchased makeup AND COLORED CONTACTS to complete the look and i have to say that its worth it, it makes the look feel complete :)
i so badlyy need a friend or 2 who's willing to dress up like that with me and just go about our days like that and take photos and go to get food or the park and just exist in cute outfits. i know 1 person who might b able to do that but idk i am too scared to reach out and ask. something about the cute stickers and crazy intense filters speaks to me and makes me want to grab a friend and force them to do it with me like cmonnn its so cutee :3 jirai kei enjoyers... TO ME!
